In Times of Need
The Synagogue works to stay closely attentive to its members and friends, especially during illness, bereavement, loss of employment, and dislocation of any kind. The primary instrument for this combination of inreach and outreach is a group of devoted members called "Bikur Cholim."
That Hebrew phrase, meaning "visiting the sick" summons up centuries of caretaking, and connects us with cohesive Jewish communities in all times and places who have worked to lift the burden of friends, neighbors and families in need.
Bikur Cholim does hospital and home visits, works closely with Elijah's Cloak (see the relevant webpage), and has distinguished itself in preparing meals for shut-ins, those who are recovering from illness, and anyone in need. The group is our primary go-to organization for all the social welfare needs of the congregation.
