Twelve for Twelve and CookieBake

Two of our earliest forays into social service are still fixed features of the Synagogue's programming calendar.

For almost a decade, a Synagogue team has prepared twelve Christmas dinners for hospice patients and their families. The work is typically done on December 23 in the Synagogue kitchens, and the meals themselves are delivered in time for Christmas Eve dinner on the following day. The team prepares an elaborate feasat of roasted turkeys with all the accompaniments.

Help is always needed for this effort, and we would especially like assistance with the baking of dessert pies.

The second effort, CookieBake 20XX, calls on members and friends to bake in their own kitchens so that we can distribute luscious trays of home-baked cookies, bars, and cakes to wherever emergency services are offered on Christmas day. That includes emergency rooms, police and fire stations, the Day Center for the Homeless, and a host of other locations. We are usually ready to recieve contributions from December 20 forward, as long as they are well-wrapped.

The trays are prepared on December 24 in the Synagogue and delivered all over the city with Synagogue greetings for peace, safety, and wellbeing. We would love to have your contributions so that we can prepare as many trays as possible.

Please call Greg Raskin at 583-7121 if you would like to be involved in either of these efforts. The more participation, the larger and more ambitious we can afford to be.
