Intermarriage
Congregation B'nai Emunah cares deeply about enriching the Jewish lives of each of its members. Within that framework, it sincerely welcomes the affiliation of men and women who share their lives with non-Jewish spouses, children, and extended families. We welcome every member of such families into the embrace of the congregation, and hope to model the deep and genuine inclusiveness of our community.
At the beginning of the new century, families where one partner may be part of another faith community make up an important component in the membership of the Synagogue. We honor sincere and worthy commitments of every kind, and believe that God is in covenant with many different peoples. The life of the spirit is a continuing journey in which no significant choice can be compelled.
In practical terms, all Synagogue events are open to families as a whole, and we encourage all of our families to become immersed in the life of the Synagogue. If you are a person of another faith (or of no particular faith) we hope that you include us in your spiritual experience, and sample some of the richness of Jewish tradition. All of this comes without expectation or preconditions of any kind. Our hope, simply expressed, is that the religious life of the Synagogue might reward your curiosity and that you might find a way to support the aspirations of the Jewish members of your family. The decisions that you make for yourself will always evoke deep and deferential respect from the Synagogue.
